What GentleWaves® Can Do

GentleWaves® is a form of low-level light therapy used to help injured skin recover more quickly and is FDA-approved for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines. This treatment uses extremely low-energy LED light (similar to a 25W light bulb) to accomplish specific goals. It can help:

  • Reverse sun damage
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Stimulate our skin’s natural repair processes while simultaneously inhibiting the processes which lead to loss of our collagen supply
  • Reduce pore size
  • Decrease red discoloration
  • Smooth wrinkles in the skin

GentleWaves® accomplishes these goals by stimulating the body’s repair processes while simultaneously inhibiting the process by which collagen is naturally broken down. In an initial clinical trial, more than 80% of patients treated with GentleWaves® alone felt that their overall skin appearance was significantly improved. GentleWaves® has also been shown to help injured skin heal more quickly.  We  recommend this treatment in conjunction with other rejuvenation techniques as well as after treatment with other laser and light sources.

GentleWaves® and Radiation Treatment

Patients who are undergoing radiation treatment for internal cancers (especially breast cancer) often develop redness of the skin overlying the treated area.  GentleWaves® treatment has also been proven to decrease the amount of irritation and inflammation caused in these situations.  Treatments are usually initiated prior to radiation and continued twice weekly throughout the course of therapy.  If you are undergoing radiation treatments that are expected to create redness and discomfort of your skin, please let Dr. Biesman or his staff know so that arrangements can be made for GentleWaves® treatments to help minimize these undesirable side effects.

What to Expect in Treatment

GentleWaves® treatments are typically administered twice weekly for four weeks and each treatment takes only a few minutes.  Maintenance treatments are suggested at regular intervals.  Treatments are completely painless and do not require any anesthesia or recovery time.
