What is XEOMIN®?
XEOMIN® is a prescription medication used in facial aesthetics to improve the appearance of moderate to severe lines in the upper and lower face and to shape the face by strategically relaxing select muscle groups. Xeomin contains the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, as Botox and Dysport and is used in the same manner as these drugs. Numerous studies have demonstrated that Xeomin is similar to Botox its clinical effects including time to onset of effects after injection and duration of effect. XEOMIN® is also sometimes referred to as incobotulinumtoxinA.
XEOMIN® in Aesthetics: How Does It Work?
Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN® – is used in facial aesthetic treatment to treat dynamic lines like glabellar frown lines. It acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, XEOMIN® can reduce the depth and appearance of lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, at the corners of the eyes (“crow’s feet”), in the nose, around the mouth, and in the neck. Xeomin can also be used to elevate heave eyebrows and help turn up drooping corners of the mouth. In the small doses used in facial aesthetics, like Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is extremely safe and effective.
