About Research

Evaluation and testing of new drugs, lasers and other energy-based devices, and injectables is done through a formal process known as a clinical trial. As a seasoned investigator with over 25 years of clinical research experience, Dr. Biesman is highly selective in the clinical trials in which he participates. For patients, clinical trials can be fun and exciting while at the same time providing access to treatment at no cost. Further, additional compensation for your time and participation is typically provided. Clinical trials can vary in length from only 1-2 visits to many visits over a period of 18 months or longer. Each trial has its own unique set of criteria that must be met to qualify for participation.

What is the catch? There really aren’t any drawbacks to participation in clinical trials but there are some rules that need to be observed. For example, a certain number of follow up visits will be required, you may be asked to keep notes in a journal at home in which you record your daily experience, and you may be asked to avoid undergoing certain treatments while you are a participant in a trial. It is never permitted to participate in more than 1 trial at a time. Almost all studies also provide a stipend to compensate subjects for their time and travel.

Interested in participating in a clinical trial? Simply complete the Volunteer Form and, when we are seeking subjects for a trial that may be a good match for you, we will invite you to a complimentary (free!) consultation and prescreening visit. This visit gives us an opportunity to meet you, understand your needs and expectations, discuss clinical trials, and provide you with the study specific details of studies for which you may be a candidate. It is important to us that you understand and feel comfortable with any study you may be enrolled in.
