After months of over-indulging in holiday festivities and food, we’re approaching that time of year when we suddenly shift from parties to proverbial New Year’s resolutions. January is undoubtedly a popular time of year for self-improvement, and we’re keen to help you feel like your best self. If you’ve ever considered undergoing an aesthetic procedure, this is a fantastic time to act. As the temperatures drop and the sun is scarce, it’s common to spend more time tucked away indoors. This is an optimal form of recovery or “downtime” that we recommend to our patients who undergo a variety of procedures that are more involved. So if you’re interested in learning more about some options that are available to you, we’re here to help.
They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but they’re also one of the first places to show signs of aging. When excess tissue in the eyelids begins to sag, it can make you look older and more tired. One possible solution? Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is when we remove or reposition that sagging tissue to create a more bright and youthful appearance. This can be done in one of two ways: an upper or lower blepharoplasty.
Surgery performed to the skin above the eye is called an upper blepharoplasty. During this procedure, also known as an eyelid lift, we make a small incision hidden within the eyelid’s natural fold to remove excess tissue that has begun to sag.
Surgery that’s performed to the skin below the eye is called a lower blepharoplasty. We often carry out this procedure through the inside of the eyelid, avoiding visible scars. This approach is common for people who have puffiness to the lower eyelids (often herniated fat that has pushed its way forward sits heavy).
Eyelid surgery takes between 60-90 minutes hours and can be performed either in an outpatient surgery center or at our office. While about 80 percent of bruising and swelling is usually resolved within the first two weeks, January makes a great month to undergo this procedure, as we already tend to stay indoors and take things a bit more slowly after the holiday chaos. If you’re looking to treat sun damage, acne scars, wrinkles or just seeking optimal skin rejuvenation, laser skin resurfacing is an incredible technology that can produce beautiful results. We use a wide range of lasers that vary in intensity, but all deliver a very controlled injury to the skin to promote healing. As a result, the skin begins to eliminate discolored, sun-damaged areas and produces fresh, new skin cells. The regenerated skin is smoother in texture and appears more youthful and vibrant.
Regardless of which laser treatment is most ideal for you, some down time is involved and we recommend minimizing sun exposure. Once again, cold and dreary January is a great time of year for this procedure since we are already cozied up indoors more frequently! Let’s face it: our “winter bod” come January tends to leave us scrambling for ways to slim down before the weather warms up. Enter CoolSculpting®: a major breakthrough in noninvasive body contouring that’s designed to reduce the thickness of stubborn fat layers (especially around the abdomen and love handles) in a safe, effective way. How, you ask? Cold therapy.
Extensive research has proven that fat cells are actually more susceptible to reduced temperature than skin, so when fat and skin are cooled simultaneously, fat can be injured while the skin remains unharmed. And if you’re wondering where the fat goes? The body’s natural repair mechanisms remove it on it’s own. If you’re still not convinced, the before and after photos are likely to change your mind…
We’ve seen CoolSculpting® positively impact patient after patient and are confident in its ability to transform. Furthermore, our practice is proud to have been among the first sites in the United States to offer this technology. To learn more about if you’re a candidate for CoolSculpting® contact our office to book a consultation.
These are just a few of the many procedures that are available to you at our practice. Regardless of what your goals are to feel like your best self in 2019, we’re here to help you achieve them. Cheers to a happy and prosperous New Year!
