Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrated mixture of blood plasma, the component of your blood that contains restorative growth factors and helps in healing wounds. There are many applications of PRP including rejuvenation of eyelid and facial skin, stimulation of hair growth in men and women, wound healing after laser treatments, to improving musculoskeletal problems such as injured muscles and joints. PRP exerts its beneficial effects by stimulating your body to use its natural repair systems to heal wounds and regenerate aged or injured tissues.

PRP injections are used to successfully rejuvenate aged or sun-damaged skin improving wrinkles, folds, and crepiness around the eyes and mouth. A series of 3 injections spaced approximately 1 month apart are typically recommended for best results.  When treating the eyelids and face PRP injections are combined with other interventions including surgery, laser resurfacing, RF microneedling, dermal filler injections, and other technology-based procedures to achieve best outcomes.  Regularly administered PRP injections are also used to help stimulate hair growth on the scalp in both men and women who are experiencing thinning or loss of hair due to stress, environmental factors, hormonal changes, and aging.

PRP may also be applied topically to your skin to help it heal more quickly following procedures such as laser skin resurfacing, Morpheus8 microneedling, Fraxel and others.  Our patients report less redness, swelling, and discomfort as well as faster healing times when PRP is used in conjunction with these procedures.

PRP is a natural product created by your own body. To collect PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn from a vein with a thin needle. The blood is specially processed to separate it into its different components. The portion of platelet-rich plasma which is rich in growth factors is then isolated and used either topically, via injection, or in both manners.

As is typical of any injection, following injection of PRP you may experience swelling and redness which typically is mild and resolves within a few days.  PRP exerts its beneficial effects by encouraging your body to naturally heal itself so results typically take time to develop.  When treating wrinkles, lines, and skin quality results generally start to become apparent after several weeks.  Stimulation of hair growth may not be evident until several rounds of injection have been administered.  Once the desired outcome is achieved, maintenance treatments are recommended.
