Halloween

A new season is upon us, which always means a period of adjustment. Some of you might be navigating a new school year with your family and the impacts of COVID. Others may be going back to an office after working from home for most of the year. A lot of us are making room in our closets for sweaters, scarves and other seasonal gear. Whatever “adjustments” are being made, don’t forget to pause and remember your beauty routine! As seasons change, so can our aesthetic needs. That’s why, for the second year in a row, we’re sharing some seasonal beauty “tricks” from Dr. Biesman and his staff, as well as some ways to “treat” yourself. We know it’s been a challenging year, so we hope you’ll feel inspired to “carve” a little time out just for you!

TRICK: CUSTOMIZE YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE

skin care products

What makes for a good skin care routine? That depends on a lot of variables! The truth is, skin care can be as individual as the person practicing it. That’s why we recommend that everyone’s routine should be uniquely customized based on very specific concerns. While some things can apply to many, like wearing sunscreen everyday of the year, most variables aren’t “one size fits all.”  With that said, there are common adjustments we tend to see this time of year (like supplemental moisture to maintain adequate hydration or addressing brown and red spots from time in the summer sun). Regardless of if you need help getting started altogether or simply making some seasonal tweaks, our staff recommends coming to see us for your optimal custom-tailored plan. We offer some of the best medical grade skin care products that work in conjunction with any lasers or injectable treatments Dr. Biesman may also recommend to best suit your skin. TREAT YOURSELF TO: FACIALS + CHEMICAL PEELS:

Chemical Peel Before and After

Chemical peels consistently rank in the top 5 most requested non-invasive cosmetic procedures. They are used to smooth your skin’s texture, improve brown sun spots and achieve an overall glow. One of our favorite peels is The Jan Marini Transform Peel: an in-office 2-step peel that addresses uneven skin tones, fine lines, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. Step 1 of the peel is a multi-acid combination to exfoliate the skin and step 2 is a leave-on retinol activator that contains anti-aging peptides and antioxidants to advance the healing process. You can expect to flake and peel for 3-5 days. We also offer a variety of other peels at our practice. Peels are a good way to shed the outermost layers of the skin and jump-start your skincare regimen leading into fall and the holidays. Learn more about our chemical peels or call our office to schedule your appointment.

TRICK: LASERS AND IPL TO CORRECT SKIN COLOR

If you’re looking to do a bit more “heavy lifting” to improve your skin tone and texture, we have a variety of lasers at our practice that can help correct damage done by the sun (all with minimal recovery).

IPL machine

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is used to improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin, particularly red discoloration and darker brown spots. It is most commonly used to counteract the redness that occurs in patients who have acne, rosacea and the red and brown changes that occur with a lot of sun damage. IPL can be used on the face, neck, arms, hands and even the chest, back and legs. Treatments are usually repeated at 2-3 week intervals with a series of four to six treatments recommended for most patients, along with touch ups periodically (every several months or so). There is minimal “recovery” time after IPL treatment and patients typically resume their normal schedules without interruption.

VBeam Laser is another treatment option. While IPL is an ideal procedure to even the color of skin which has both unwanted red and brown discoloration, VBeam laser treatments are used to improve areas of which are only red.  Examples of conditions treated by VBeam laser include flushed cheeks, “broken capillaries”, scars, acne and others, Like IPL, VBeam treatments are quick and do not require anesthesia or numbing.  There is no “down time” associated with VBeam treatments although some swelling can occur..  While some conditions can be cleared with only a single VBeam treatment, frequently a series of treatments is recommended for best results.  Dr. Biesman and his staff will provide a customized plan to best meet your needs..

While the above are certainly effective, some patients are better candidates for more aggressive techniques like skin resurfacing treatments. These can vary in intensity, produce different results and require a range of downtime.

Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing

Results from the practice of Brian S. Biesman, M. D.
Full Face Full Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing
& Bilateral Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

Starting with the most aggressive, Laser Skin Resurfacing uses heat on the skin to create microchannels of controlled “damage.” In response to this stimulus, the skin undergoes a healing process that results in elimination of discolored, sun-damaged areas, producing fresh, new skin. Post treatment recovery times are often a full two weeks, followed by a period of a few more months when the skin can have a pink or red color.

Fraxel before and after

Another procedure we offer, that requires a bit less downtime, is Fraxel. Fraxel is also a skin resurfacing treatment that improves tone, texture and radiance for aging, sun damaged or scarred skin. This treatment is popular with patients who want to look younger without dramatic changes or extended downtime.

For a more moderate approach to skin resurfacing, we also offer Morpheus8 RF Microneedling. This procedure is a safe, effective and minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that combines radio frequency technology with microneedling. Together, these techniques stimulate collagen production to tighten and smooth areas on the face and body, while tiny needles also penetrate the skin at and heat the deeper layers of tissue to restore more youthful skin. The procedure is quick, relatively painless and minimal downtime.

TREAT YOURSELF TO: THE SURGERY YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED

Is there a surgical procedure you’ve always wanted to pursue? If so, why not take advantage of this upcoming winter? With COVID reducing the number of events we’ll be attending this winter, not to mention it already being the season we spend the most time indoors, this winter has never been a better opportunity to allow for necessary recovery time. Here are a few surgical procedures to consider and what to expect for each:

Eyelid surgery before and after

Eyelid Surgery, also known as a Blepharoplasty, is when Dr. Biesman makes a small incision hidden within the eyelid’s natural fold to remove or reposition the sagging tissue. The result is a more well-rested, youthful appearance. While 80% of bruising and swelling is usually resolved within the first two weeks, you also must avoid heavy bending and lifting for at least two weeks after surgery, so you’ll want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest.

Forehead lift: This outpatient procedure uses tiny telescopes, introduced through small incisions hidden behind the hairline, to elevate the eyebrows and eliminate deep forehead and “frown” lines, while avoiding many of the problems associated with traditional brow-lifting techniques. The amount of bruising and swelling is variable with some patients experiencing very little while others may have visible bruising for several weeks. Again, you’ll want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest, making this upcoming winter a great time to schedule.

Dr. Biesman specializes in treatments of the upper face that include eyelids, foreheads and eyebrows, so he’ll be able to tell you which procedure is a better option for you.

TRICK: NON-INVASIVE SKIN TIGHTENING

Did you know there are ways to go beyond anti-aging skin care products to more effectively tighten your skin? (And it doesn’t always mean surgery!)

Thermage Before After

Thermage® is a noninvasive skin-tightening treatment that can be used on the face, neck, eyelids, or body. It uses electrical energy to carefully heat the skin in a way that causes collagen to contract and stimulates the production of new collagen, resulting in a tighter, firmer appearance. Similar to Ultherapy, downtime is minimal, however it can take several months for the full results to take full effect.

Ultherapy Before and After

Ultherapy is another treatment used to lift and tighten mild/moderate laxity to the face. While downtime is minimal, it takes about 3 months to see full results. In order to enjoy the best results in time for any holiday event, you should schedule treatments now!

TREAT YOURSELF TO: ACHIEVING AESTHETIC GOALS
WITH INJECTABLES

Have you always wanted a fuller pout? Or perhaps you’ve been self-conscious of your under-eye hollowness? Whether you want to enhance a certain feature or simply restore aesthetic balance that may have been lost with time, Dr. Biesman offers a variety of nonsurgical injectable techniques to help maintain a youthful and healthy appearance with no downtime.

While certain injectable fillers are chosen to enhance areas of the face, such as plumping thin lips or adding volume to the apples of the cheeks, the primary hope for many of our patients is that they rejuvenate the overall appearance. In these instances, Dr. Biesman uses injectable fillers to restore lost volume to specific facial structures thus reestablishing youthful contours and balance.  This can be the balance between the upper and lower face, the lips and face, the upper and lower lip, the jawline and cheek,  or any other combination.

Fillers Before and after

Carefully injected dermal fillers can also improve the look of deeper, etched lines in the face, reshape the nose, strengthen the jawline, contour the chin and even improve the appearance of some scars.  No matter the concern, there are a wide variety of ways that Dr. Biesman can use this combination of science and artistry to help you look and feel your best!
