Have you ever been more excited for a year to end? As 2020 comes to a close, we can’t help but reflect on all that’s happened during these last 12 months. It’s safe to say this year was unlike any we’ve ever experienced before and it certainly brought its fair share of challenges. Between the tornado that hit Nashville back in March to the pandemic that shocked the world… there were moments this year just didn’t seem fair. As difficult as it has been, our team still agrees this year wasn’t all bad. In fact, 2020 also allowed us to rest and to spend more quality time with the ones we love. Here are a few favorite highlights that stood out to various members of our staff:

Dr. Biesman

“While 2020 was a year of tremendous challenge, it did have some silver linings. First, we had the opportunity to spend more time with our adult children who live in other cities than I ever imagined possible at this stage of their lives. That was a true gift for which I am deeply appreciative. Second, 2020 provided an opportunity for me to observe the amazing commitment and dedication of both our core team and our patients to the practice. I am so grateful for this support. Finally, I made a resolution at the end of 2019 to get a better handle on my business travel schedule in the coming year as I had spent far more time away than I would have liked. This year certainly helped me accomplish that goal as I have not left Nashville since March 1!

-Dr. Biesman

Amanda, Research Coordinator

“My favorite thing about 2020 was the opportunity to be locked up with my boys. We tried to take advantage and do all things we always say “I wish I had time” to do. We scrapbooked, watched tons of movies, cooked/baked, did yard work, stained the deck and had long talks filled with laughter. Even though we were itching to get out of the house, it was truly a blessing to have that time together.”

-Amanda, Research Coordinator

Family in winter

“My favorite things about 2020 included:

-Stuffed animal fight with my kiddos when the lights went out during the tornado – kids against me!

-Friday night fun… virtual dance club in our bonus room!

-Eating dinner as a family again.

-Spending time learning about technology (like TikTok) and documenting how the family changed throughout the year.

-New processes that make work easier and will be adopted even after the pandemic!”

(like TikTok)

-Jennifer, Practice Administration

Heidi, Practice Administration

“2020 has been full of silver linings! I am most thankful for the opportunity to spend more time with my husband and son! My son, Noah, started Kindergarten this year and thankfully has been able to attend in person. I love being a car line mom! We have built a tighter community within our neighborhood and have enjoyed the more simpler (yet meaningful!) activities in life like backyard barbeques, movies on the lawn and playing every kind of sport!

-Heidi, Practice Administration

While we’ve all found some silver linings to be thankful for, we’re still very ready for a new year…

From all of us at the practice of Dr. Brian Biesman, Happy Holidays!

Home » Blog » 2020

Thanksgiving is this week, which means the holiday season is officially upon us! We all know this season is going to look different compared to years past. Usually we’d be rushing to parties and events, planning trips to visit family and managing all sorts of seasonal chaos. This year? Well, you don’t really need us to explain the differences…

Even though 2020 has brought plenty of challenges, we believe the spirit of this season has never been more important. Gratitude is a beautiful reminder of all that is good in a world that can often feel dark.  Even when we’re faced with insurmountable difficulties, we’re given incredible perspective when we can shift our focus to the things in our lives we can be grateful for.

We came together as a team to reflect on some of the things we’re most grateful for this year, both big and small:

“I am thankful for my family and that, so far, they have all remained healthy through the pandemic. I am thankful for our amazing and dedicated team who has helped us navigate some incredibly challenging times this year. I am thankful for our loyal and supportive patients who trust us, believe in us and continue to support us.” – Dr. Biesman

“I’m grateful that my parents and family are healthy. I’m thankful for a new niece and nephew in the family. And I’m thankful for my work family, we keep each other (mostly) sane!” -Cara, Clinical Nurse

“I am thankful for my cat, Mavis and dog, Hayes.” Mary, Clinical Nurse

“In this crazy year of 2020, I have never been so thankful for so many things. I will always be MOST thankful for my family! My boys, Kelton & Kolby, will turn 16 in a few days. I am secretly thankful that they will soon drive themselves to baseball/karate/ “all the things!” I’m thankful for a great work family and the opportunity to do something I love with an amazing group of people every day. I am thankful for Botox (so the stress of 2020 doesn’t show on my face)!  Also, I can’t forget to mention… online shopping and Alabama football! Roll Tide!” –Amanda, Practice
Research Coordinator

“I am grateful for our resilient healthcare workers all around the world. I am grateful for the courageousness of Justice RBG. And I am grateful for the collaboration between SpaceX and NASA so that we finally have Americans back in space!” –Isabella, Front Office Administration

While these are just a few examples of our collective gratitude, we really wanted to use this month’s post to say how thankful we are for all of you. Your support during this turbulent year has meant the world to us. For those who have reached out personally to check on us, to those who have brought their kindness back into our practice (even if your smiles were behind a mask, we could feel them!) we say thank you. We couldn’t have gotten through 2020 without all of you! As a small token of our appreciation, we’re pleased to offer our patients 10% off gift certificates purchased at our practice between November 23rd and December 24th to apply towards future Aesthetic Services. Learn more about our gift certificates HERE

These certificates can help you save a significant amount, especially on larger procedures including:

As we age, excess tissue in the eyelid area makes the eyes appear aged and tired. One of Dr. Biesman’s specialties is eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) which can help make the eyes appear more youthful overall.  During this procedure, Dr. Biesman removes or repositions sagging tissues to create a bright, more “awake” look. Between all the time we are spending at home and the savings from our gift certificates, there has never been a better time to take advantage of eyelid surgery!

* Please note, Gift Certificates do not apply towards Facility for Anesthesiologist fees.

FaceTite and AccuTite are minimally invasive procedures used to tighten and contour the lower eyelid, jawline, neck and facial tissue. During the procedure, Dr. Biesman uses this novel radio frequency device to reduce fat and tighten skin in the targeted areas, providing an alternative to invasive surgery. The FaceTite and AccuTite procedures are performed in the office without the need for general anesthesia or even deep sedation. Schedule a consultation today to learn if you are a candidate for this potentially transformative treatment and save 10% by purchasing a gift certificate in advance!

This time of year tempts all of us to indulge more than we typically do in the eating department, but 2020 has exacerbated this for many of us. Even when healthy eating and regularly exercising, it’s very common to still struggle with stubborn areas of fat. CoolSculpting® is a major breakthrough in noninvasive body contouring that reduces fat layer thickness safely and effectively without anesthesia, sedation or injections. This treatment yields optimal results with multiple sessions, so purchasing a gift certificate this season will allow you to extend your 10% discount throughout the year ahead.

See all of our available procedures HERE

Whether you want to give these as a gift to people you love, or you’re trying to save money on future treatments for yourself, we hope this annual offering makes your season a bit brighter. Either way, we hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday this week. Cheers to all that is good now and all the goodness to come!

A new season is upon us, which always means a period of adjustment. Some of you might be navigating a new school year with your family and the impacts of COVID. Others may be going back to an office after working from home for most of the year. A lot of us are making room in our closets for sweaters, scarves and other seasonal gear. Whatever “adjustments” are being made, don’t forget to pause and remember your beauty routine! As seasons change, so can our aesthetic needs. That’s why, for the second year in a row, we’re sharing some seasonal beauty “tricks” from Dr. Biesman and his staff, as well as some ways to “treat” yourself. We know it’s been a challenging year, so we hope you’ll feel inspired to “carve” a little time out just for you!

skin care products

What makes for a good skin care routine? That depends on a lot of variables! The truth is, skin care can be as individual as the person practicing it. That’s why we recommend that everyone’s routine should be uniquely customized based on very specific concerns. While some things can apply to many, like wearing sunscreen everyday of the year, most variables aren’t “one size fits all.”  With that said, there are common adjustments we tend to see this time of year (like supplemental moisture to maintain adequate hydration or addressing brown and red spots from time in the summer sun). Regardless of if you need help getting started altogether or simply making some seasonal tweaks, our staff recommends coming to see us for your optimal custom-tailored plan. We offer some of the best medical grade skin care products that work in conjunction with any lasers or injectable treatments Dr. Biesman may also recommend to best suit your skin. Call our office today to schedule your appointment: 615-329-1110

Chemical Peel Before and After

Chemical peels consistently rank in the top 5 most requested non-invasive cosmetic procedures. They are used to smooth your skin’s texture, improve brown sun spots and achieve an overall glow. One of our favorite peels is The Jan Marini Transform Peel: an in-office 2-step peel that addresses uneven skin tones, fine lines, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. Step 1 of the peel is a multi-acid combination to exfoliate the skin and step 2 is a leave-on retinol activator that contains anti-aging peptides and antioxidants to advance the healing process. You can expect to flake and peel for 3-5 days. We also offer a variety of other peels at our practice. Peels are a good way to shed the outermost layers of the skin and jump-start your skincare regimen leading into fall and the holidays. Learn more about our chemical peels or call our office to schedule your appointment.

If you’re looking to do a bit more “heavy lifting” to improve your skin tone and texture, we have a variety of lasers at our practice that can help correct damage done by the sun (all with minimal recovery).

IPL machine

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is used to improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin, particularly red discoloration and darker brown spots. It is most commonly used to counteract the redness that occurs in patients who have acne, rosacea and the red and brown changes that occur with a lot of sun damage. IPL can be used on the face, neck, arms, hands and even the chest, back and legs. Treatments are usually repeated at 2-3 week intervals with a series of four to six treatments recommended for most patients, along with touch ups periodically (every several months or so). There is minimal “recovery” time after IPL treatment and patients typically resume their normal schedules without interruption.

VBeam Laser is another treatment option. While IPL is an ideal procedure to even the color of skin which has both unwanted red and brown discoloration, VBeam laser treatments are used to improve areas of which are only red.  Examples of conditions treated by VBeam laser include flushed cheeks, “broken capillaries”, scars, acne and others, Like IPL, VBeam treatments are quick and do not require anesthesia or numbing.  There is no “down time” associated with VBeam treatments although some swelling can occur..  While some conditions can be cleared with only a single VBeam treatment, frequently a series of treatments is recommended for best results.  Dr. Biesman and his staff will provide a customized plan to best meet your needs..

While the above are certainly effective, some patients are better candidates for more aggressive techniques like skin resurfacing treatments. These can vary in intensity, produce different results and require a range of downtime.

Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing

Results from the practice of Brian S. Biesman, M. D.
Full Face Full Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing
& Bilateral Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

Starting with the most aggressive, Laser Skin Resurfacing uses heat on the skin to create microchannels of controlled “damage.” In response to this stimulus, the skin undergoes a healing process that results in elimination of discolored, sun-damaged areas, producing fresh, new skin. Post treatment recovery times are often a full two weeks, followed by a period of a few more months when the skin can have a pink or red color.

Fraxel before and after

Another procedure we offer, that requires a bit less downtime, is Fraxel. Fraxel is also a skin resurfacing treatment that improves tone, texture and radiance for aging, sun damaged or scarred skin. This treatment is popular with patients who want to look younger without dramatic changes or extended downtime.

For a more moderate approach to skin resurfacing, we also offer Morpheus8 RF Microneedling. This procedure is a safe, effective and minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that combines radio frequency technology with microneedling. Together, these techniques stimulate collagen production to tighten and smooth areas on the face and body, while tiny needles also penetrate the skin at and heat the deeper layers of tissue to restore more youthful skin. The procedure is quick, relatively painless and minimal downtime.

Is there a surgical procedure you’ve always wanted to pursue? If so, why not take advantage of this upcoming winter? With COVID reducing the number of events we’ll be attending this winter, not to mention it already being the season we spend the most time indoors, this winter has never been a better opportunity to allow for necessary recovery time. Here are a few surgical procedures to consider and what to expect for each:

Eyelid surgery before and after

Eyelid Surgery, also known as a Blepharoplasty, is when Dr. Biesman makes a small incision hidden within the eyelid’s natural fold to remove or reposition the sagging tissue. The result is a more well-rested, youthful appearance. While 80% of bruising and swelling is usually resolved within the first two weeks, you also must avoid heavy bending and lifting for at least two weeks after surgery, so you’ll want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest.

Forehead lift: This outpatient procedure uses tiny telescopes, introduced through small incisions hidden behind the hairline, to elevate the eyebrows and eliminate deep forehead and “frown” lines, while avoiding many of the problems associated with traditional brow-lifting techniques. The amount of bruising and swelling is variable with some patients experiencing very little while others may have visible bruising for several weeks. Again, you’ll want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest, making this upcoming winter a great time to schedule.

Dr. Biesman specializes in treatments of the upper face that include eyelids, foreheads and eyebrows, so he’ll be able to tell you which procedure is a better option for you.

Did you know there are ways to go beyond anti-aging skin care products to more effectively tighten your skin? (And it doesn’t always mean surgery!)

Thermage Before After

Thermage® is a noninvasive skin-tightening treatment that can be used on the face, neck, eyelids, or body. It uses electrical energy to carefully heat the skin in a way that causes collagen to contract and stimulates the production of new collagen, resulting in a tighter, firmer appearance. Similar to Ultherapy, downtime is minimal, however it can take several months for the full results to take full effect.

Ultherapy Before and After

Ultherapy is another treatment used to lift and tighten mild/moderate laxity to the face. While downtime is minimal, it takes about 3 months to see full results. In order to enjoy the best results in time for any holiday event, you should schedule treatments now!

Have you always wanted a fuller pout? Or perhaps you’ve been self-conscious of your under-eye hollowness? Whether you want to enhance a certain feature or simply restore aesthetic balance that may have been lost with time, Dr. Biesman offers a variety of nonsurgical injectable techniques to help maintain a youthful and healthy appearance with no downtime.

While certain injectable fillers are chosen to enhance areas of the face, such as plumping thin lips or adding volume to the apples of the cheeks, the primary hope for many of our patients is that they rejuvenate the overall appearance. In these instances, Dr. Biesman uses injectable fillers to restore lost volume to specific facial structures thus reestablishing youthful contours and balance.  This can be the balance between the upper and lower face, the lips and face, the upper and lower lip, the jawline and cheek,  or any other combination.

Fillers Before and after

Carefully injected dermal fillers can also improve the look of deeper, etched lines in the face, reshape the nose, strengthen the jawline, contour the chin and even improve the appearance of some scars.  No matter the concern, there are a wide variety of ways that Dr. Biesman can use this combination of science and artistry to help you look and feel your best!

Whether you’re intrigued by a beauty “trick,” a way to “treat” yourself (or both!) contact our practice to book an appointment with Dr. Biesman. This always becomes our busiest time of year, so get on our schedule while you can!

A lot of you may ask Dr. Biesman plenty of questions when you come into the office and chances are those questions pertain to your individual visit. So this month, we decided to sit down with Dr. Biesman to ask him some questions about broader topics we feel his patients would still take an interest in: everything from industry predictions, to interesting patient stories and more. Here’s what he had to say:

Your industry is constantly evolving and improving, which means there new procedures popping up all the time. What are some of the latest procedures that are on the rise that you’re most excited about?

Dr. Biesman: “I’m really excited about some new injectable products but in particular some new applications of these injectable products. One in particular is dilute Radiesse, which is used to improve skin quality. We’ve used it successfully on the face, neck, chest, thighs, buttocks and knees (pretty much all over the body!) to produce changes that we haven’t really been able to achieve with anything else.

Another new technique we’re using with fillers is based on some anatomic principles that allow us to inject behind the hairline, yet lift the entire face somewhat, which is a pretty neat technique.

There is also some new technology that we’re using for minimally invasive skin tightening and contouring (mostly along the jawline and neck but also a bit under the eyes). It is called FaceTite and EyeTite and is an exciting combination of some newer technology and devices but provides confidence and comfort in that is based on excellent science that I have been familiar and comfortable with for many years.”

Clinical research is incredibly important to you. Tell us about some of the projects you’ve been involved in most recently.

Dr. Biesman: Since returning from the COVID-19 quarantine break our clinical research department has come back in full force!  Some recent and upcoming projects we are excited about include:

  • Studying several new injectable products as under eye fillers to correct hollowness or camouflage unwanted puffiness.
  • Studying the safety and effectiveness of 2 new Botox-like drugs.  I would like to share more but can’t let the cat out of the bag prematurely!.
  • Evaluation of an injectable drug to treat cellulite.(more exciting news to come as we make progress on this!)
  • Evaluation of 2 products applied to the skin’s surface:: one study tests a chemical peel and the other evaluates a new combination of existing products to achieve enhanced outcomes.
  • Combination therapy is actually a very big theme we’re seeing in the clinical process these days (so instead of a patient coming in for one procedure, the idea with combination therapy is doing 2 at a time (for example a laser treatment and an injectable or 2 different laser treatments as opposed to just 1.) We have an exciting combination treatment study coming up that combines 2 energy-based treatment techniques, 1 for skin tightening and 1 for skin resurfacing,to produce a superior outcome.

Patients are often only familiar with their own stories… but you see so many different types of cases day in and day out. What is a recent patient story that has happened at the practice that you think would interest or surprise people?

Dr. Biesman: “Interesting question! (And one we have to be careful to answer, I obviously highly value patient privacy and confidentiality, so I want to ensure anonymity is maintained). Last week alone, I saw 2 different patients who were very unhappy with treatments that had been performed elsewhere and who were asking for help correcting their problems: one had undergone blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) surgery and the other had fat injection around the eyelids. Both patients were very sad with their unfortunate outcomes. The good news is that the issues are fixable and I am looking forward to helping both of these patients look better and feel better about themselves.

Another recent story was a patient we saw who had been over-injected with soft tissue fillers that her face was distorted to the point that she no longer looked like herself.  This is every injection patient’s worst nightmare.  The silver lining here was that the products with which she had been injected were made of hyaluronic acid and could be easily dissolved. Within a couple of days, we were able to reverse the treatments and place a modest amount of filler in the proper location to restore a natural and refreshed look.  One of the takeaway messages here is to do your research carefully before you have any procedure done, even if it is offered in a spa or salon setting. When done well and for the right indications, most procedures produce excellent outcomes.  However, even nonsurgical procedures have risks and can have poor or even disastrous complications.  Make sure you understand the risks, potential complications of a procedure, and experience of the person performing it before having something done!

Finally, a gentleman traveled from quite a long distance (as many of our patients do) to see us. He had severe acne scarring and had undergone more procedures in an attempt to correct his scarring than any patient I have seen in over 25 years of practice.  Despite having undergone all of these treatments he estimated he had only seen a 10% improvement in his scarring. We performed one combination therapy procedure on him and, after a single treatment  he already feels 30-40% better, far more improvement than he has seen from any other treatment or treatment combination.  That was so rewarding for me and my entire team!  Helping people achieve their goals is always satisfying and is that much more so when others have failed to do so!”

You’ve been in the industry for years and have seen it evolve in many ways. What are some things you anticipate will change in the next 10 years?

Dr. Biesman: “I think we’re going to see growth in a number of areas. I think regenerative medicine is going to play a bigger and bigger role. One form of regenerative medicine that people can relate to now is known as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) which is collected from the blood. We currently use PRP for a number of applications including stimulate of hair growth, helping the skin heal after treatments such as laser resurfacing, Fraxel treatment, Morpheus8 RF microneedling, and others, and to help improve skin quality in areas in which fine wrinkles have developed and patients do not have the down  time to undergo a bigger laser resurfacing procedure.  However, there are many other potential goals that the concept of regenerative medicine can help us achieve through the use of stem cells, growth factors, microsomes, and others.  Stay tuned for a lot of new developments in those areas.

I also believe there will be ongoing improvements in technology and energy-based devices as well as injectables that will allow us to accomplish things that we can’t do now. Simply put, there are some things we can’t do with existing devices or materials that we will be able to do in the future.  A few examples include improved injectables, novel treatment for acne, and many others.  Some products currently exist outside the US and will likely make their way here whereas others are currently in various states of the product development process domestically.  t that we’ll see some of those products in the US in the next several years.

It is my  sincere hope that, as new products are developed and released, we see application of more rigorous scientific standards in the field of aesthetics. I strongly believe that the same high standards and scientific rigor applied to developing novel treatments in the rest of medicine (diabetes, heart disease, treatment of cancer, etc.)  be applied to new treatments in aesthetic medicine.  That is not always the case today but I am doing my best to push our industry in that direction.”

What are some of the biggest misconceptions you find yourself often setting straight with your patients?

Dr. Biesman: “I’d say one of the biggest misconceptions is that surgery is the best solution for all aesthetic concerns. Surgery is and will always remain an important tool that we use to treat some conditions. However, lasers, soft tissue fillers and other noninvasive procedures generally produce effects that complement rather than replace surgery.

Another common misconception (and one that often is associated with unfortunate outcomes) is that if a procedure does not require surgery in an operating room (for example lasers or injectables) that the skill and experience of the operator is not important.  Patients who use this approach typically make their decisions based on convenience, cost, and other factors that, while important, should not be the determining principles in the decision-making process.  Many patients simply are not aware of the potential risks or complications of procedures until it is too late.  I recommend that anyone considering undergoing an aesthetic treatment of any type go through the same due diligence and decision-making process as they would if they were to undergo surgery.  Do your homework!”

Anything else you’d like to share?

Dr. Biesman: “I do still feel like COVID is still a very pertinent topic worth speaking to. For people who are wondering if it’s safe to either come to our office or to have treatments performed during these uncommon and remarkable  times, the answer is a resounding yes!. We have been extremely rigid in establishing and following safety protocols and, so far, our system has worked smoothly and effectively to keep our patients and staff safe.  We screen our patients carefully, sterilize our exam rooms thoroughly in between patients, and have a long list of screening protocols that reflect best practices as recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), state, and local health authorities.  We update our written safety plan each week to ensure it is current and are meticulous in following it.  The feedback from our patients who have visited many other offices and health department officials alike has been extremely positive with respect to our safety policies and procedures.  I hope that provides some peace of mind for anyone who is wondering if our office is a safe place to visit.”

A Month Full of Celebration!

Dr. Biesman and staff

While we’re still living in uncertain times, it’s not lost on our team how incredibly lucky we are to be able to celebrate so many wonderful things! Over the last few weeks at the office, we’ve had a lot going on. For starters, we’ve been extremely excited to see more and more of our patients back in our practice again. We can’t say enough how much we’ve missed you all! We’ve also celebrated some important milestones and some other big moments over the past few weeks. Here’s a recap of what we’ve been up to:

Dr. Biesman birthday balloons

Now another year wiser… Dr. Biesman celebrated his birthday on July 19th! In lieu of the team going to BrickTops to celebrate like we usually do, we decided to celebrate him each day of his birthday week with a little something special:

On Monday, we surprised him with birthday balloons and fruit pizza made by Tammy (which was super yummy! )

birthday cake

On Tuesday, Dr. Biesman received a healthy goodies bag filled with his favorite treats:

oranges, licorice, Grab the Gold bars, peanut butter, and tuna packets.

Birthday presents

On Wednesday, we catered in lunch from one of his favorite healthy spots: True Food Kitchen.

On Thursday, we celebrated with “cookies & a cold one.” Heidi picked up his favorite sugar cookies from Hey Sugar Nashville and we toasted to Dr. Biesman at the end of the day.

Finally, on Friday, we ended the celebration week with “sushi, socks & whiskey,” catering sushi for lunch and giving him University of Michigan and Predators socks (his favorite sports teams!) and a bottle of Angel’s Envy artisan, award-winning premium whiskey.

We may not have been able to carry out the usual birthday traditions, but we sure had fun making the most of the week celebrating our favorite doctor. Cheers to another year, Dr. Biesman!

If you’ve been to our practice, chances are you know Tammy, one of our brilliant clinical nurses on staff who specializes in lasers, skin care and CoolSculpting. Right as quarantine was beginning in March, Tammy Celebrated her 10 year anniversary with the practice, so a belated celebration was clearly in order!

Birthday celebration

Tammy graduated cum laude from Barton College and has been working specifically with lasers and cosmeceuticals for more than 10 years. She is an expert in so many categories and adds so much value to our team. Not only that, so many of you love her as well! Tammy has a warm spirit that draws you in and it’s no surprise how quickly our patients bond with her. Between her impeccable skill set, impressive knowledge and kind demeanor, we couldn’t be happier to celebrate 10 years with Tammy as a member of our team. Here’s to many more!

Dr. Biesman wasn’t the only member on our team with a birthday this month! Isabella also had a July birthday. Isabella adds immense value to our team and we are so thankful for her. To celebrate, we hosted our very own acai bowl party in the office. Thank you Isabella for all that you do!

Isabella birthday

Music City SCALE is usually hosted here in Nashville and is one of our biggest events of the year. While we weren’t able to attend in person, countless hours were spent editing offsite video courses and we were able to participate in some wonderful virtual events!

Music City SCALE

Dr. Biesman has played a key role in this conference for 15 years as Co-Director, and this year was no exception. Over the course of the weekend, he was able to weigh in on topics including:

  • Consensus Recommendations for 4th Generation Non-microneedling Monopolar RF for Skin Tightening.
  • Providing an Update on Fillers
  • Fractional Resection of Skin
  • Live Injections Demonstration
  • The impacts of COVID-19 in the aesthetics world
  • Periorbital Rejuvenation – Combination Therapy

We always enjoy contributing to this event, as well as learning so much from other amazing people in our industry!

office has re-opened

We know most of you are already aware that our office has re-opened, but if you haven’t been back yet to see us for an appointment, make sure to go ahead and get one scheduled! Our practice is always here to help you with various aesthetic procedures, including:

Whatever your needs are, we are here to help and hope to see you in the office soon!

There is no denying it has been a turbulent year. Many of us have faced (and are still facing) challenges unlike ever before. While certain things feel very different, the reality is that a lot of things are still the same. The sun is still rising. The days are getting longer. The temperature is warming up. The fireflies are making their return. So yes, things have been cancelled (vacations, weddings… the list goes on), but at the end of the day, summer isn’t cancelled. As we all learn to embrace a new normal, we hope you can still find ways to enjoy this time of year. Maybe instead of flying to an exotic beach you’re driving to one much closer, or using a pool right here at home! Whatever your plans might be, they still matter! We hope that if you still want to look and feel your best, no matter what you’re up to, you know we are here to help. Our office is open for business and ready to assist you in any of your aesthetic goals. Curious to explore some options? Here are some procedures that are great to consider during the summer months.

It will rarely ever feel convenient to block a few weeks out of your schedule to recover from a surgical procedure, but this summer could be an ideal opportunity to take advantage of the extra time away from the office!  Most places of business are more flexible than they have been in the past with allowing employees to work remotely and or/have flexible schedules, so before we return to the hustle and bustle of normality, why not use this summer to recover in a shaded hammock in your backyard or escape the heat with some AC and a good book indoors? Here are a few surgical options to consider:

Dr. Biesman is a specialist in oculofacial plastic surgery, which means he regularly performs surgery of the eyelids, eyebrows and upper face for rejuvenation and reconstruction. Whether your eyes look tired, aged or simply don’t look as bright as you would like, Dr. Biesman can help you visibly improve their appearance. Eyelid rejuvenation surgery typically only takes a little over an hour and is typically associated with an easy recovery but does involve some down time.  Most patients who work in an office take about a week off for eyelid surgery.  However, in our new reality, lately many of our patients are doing Zoom calls wearing sunglasses just a few days after surgery!

Sagging eyebrows can contribute to the appearance of heavy eyelids. In fact, patients will often come to Dr. Biesman inquiring about eyelid surgery and are surprised to learn that they can only accomplish their desired outcomes if their treatment plan includes eyebrow lifting as well. When performing forehead and eyebrow lifting, Dr. Biesman makes small incisions hidden behind the hairline allowing him to reposition the eyebrows in a subtle and natural way without visible scarring. Bruising and swelling will vary among patients for this procedure, so it’s good to allow for a couple weeks of down time to recover.

Bathing Suit Ready with CoolSculpting

Many patients have already communicated a desire to shed some of the unwanted fat they accumulated during quarantine (or really, just any stubborn fat). CoolSculpting® is a great way to reduce those unwanted, stubborn bulges of the abdomen, flanks, back, inner and outer thighs, arms, under the chin and other areas. This completely noninvasive, safe and effective way to eliminate unwanted body fat is perfect for candidates who are within 20-30 pounds of their ideal body weight. In fact, Dr. Biesman has served as an advisor to the company that developed the CoolSculpting® technology for many years and is still a member of the company’s Medical Advisory Board, so he knows what he is doing in this department. As is the case with any medical procedure, knowledge and experience are required to achieve the best outcomes safely.  Results following CoolSculpting® are typically seen three months after treatment, so the sooner you book your consultation, the sooner you’ll see results!

Thermage Before AfterBefore and After Thermage

This time of year, many patients are often concerned about receiving skin treatments due to their increased sun exposure (understandably so, because usually the two don’t play nicely together). With that said, we offer some treatments like Ultherapy® and Thermage® that can be done any time of year with little to no downtime.

Ultherapy® is a completely noninvasive treatment that delivers heat to the skin using focused ultrasound to produce tightening and lift sagging skin. This treatment exerts its effects deep beneath the skin’s surface and is the only treatment FDA approved for noninvasive lifting of the skin. Ultherapy® may be used on the upper face to lift the eyebrows, on the lower face and neck to contour and smooth lax skin and on the chest while improving skin quality. These treatments are easily performed in the office and have minimal to no associated downtime so you can get right back to your normal plans immediately following treatment.

Thermage® is a noninvasive, skin-tightening treatment that can be used on the face, neck, eyelids or body. It uses electrical energy to carefully heat the skin in a way that causes collagen to contract and stimulates the production of new collagen, resulting in a tighter, firmer appearance. While you might be slightly pink immediately following the procedure, patients can still resume normal activities immediately.

Whether you’re looking to proceed with a more significant procedure like surgery, or simply give your skin a refresh, we have ample options available to you. Not sure which is right for you? Contact our office to book a consultation with Dr. Biesman to identify your best options.

Before the global pandemic of COVID-19, Nashville also experienced the devastating tornadoes. It’s safe to say it’s been a turbulent couple of months for Music City. Yet during these trying times, we can honestly say there is nowhere we’d rather be than right here in Nashville. It has been truly inspiring to see how our community has stepped up to the plate: both with tornado relief as well as supporting small businesses during this period of uncertainty. In the spirit of continuing to spread the love for our city, we wanted to share some of our favorite small businesses (who you can support either online or by purchasing a gift card to support in the future):
